SUSTAINABLE ELEMENTS

With the Pelican Rouge coffees we embraces five interconnected sustainability elements.

Certified Coffee

We are committed to sourcing coffee coming from certified farms while supporting supply chain partners and farmers to achieve certification. We acknowledge that certification is an important foundation to address key sustainability issues. Yet, additional initiatives are needed to overcome systemic issues, which we address through our farm-level programs.

100% climate compensated

Our coffee is fully sustainable and certified with recyclable packaging and will be 100% climate compensated by 2025. We focus on reducing and offsetting CO2 emissions at the farm level (85% of the total impact) and in our roasting facilities (6%).

Farm-level Programs

We run programs directly with farmers we are sourcing from to improve their livelihoods and the environmental and social impact of the coffee farms. We do this in partnership with farmers, farmer coops, exporters, traders, NGOs, local civil society organizations, and other subject matter experts to secure continuation and impact in our key areas of origin.

Traceable and Transparent Sourcing

We are committed to building meaningful trading relations with our partners and farmers through our long-term collaboration and agreements. We use traceability systems to increase transparency in our supply chain and showcase the positive social and environmental impact of our coffee sourcing. We started testing and using these systems in 2022 and aim to further expand this approach among coffee trades over time.

Recyclable Packaging

We are committed to using 100% mono-material coffee bags for our Pelican Rouge branded products— a type of packaging that is easier to recycle than products made from different materials, while keeping our coffee fresh and tasty. To ensure that packaging is recycled, we offer solutions to our clients to collect and recycle packaging.
